To infinity and beyond!

Some Moms get breakfast in bed and little notes, but I get finger drawn love notes left on the steamy bathroom mirror!  I just love this picture.  First, the message is *SO* like Matthew.  Once he was pretty confident with his times tables, he would quiz us back.  He would throw out multiplication equations all the time; in the grocery line, during dinner, bathtime, stopped at a red light... For some reason 5x5 is his favourite and most often used.  The concept of infinity intrigues him as he attempts to wrap his brain around the mind-blowing idea of it all.  I guess I will be loved forever 25 times over...  How lucky can a Mom get?

Waterbugs

This is the kid that 6 months ago would only go in the water up to his knees.  He didn't know how to swim and that scared me because he almost walked off the edge of the pool into the deep end without understanding what could happen.  Matthew had many ear infections as a child and the Dr. warned me not to put him in public pools.  By the time I introduced him to the water, he was fearful.  Lessons at the community centre were a disaster.  Twice.  Even private lessons failed miserably when the instructor dunked him.  I was very disappointed since swimming is a life skill, not just an extra-curricular activity and sunny day pastime.

Last summer a work colleage told me about B&C Aquatics, a private company that was amazing in teaching kids to swim.  I called late summer and got him registered for swimming lessons last September. 

They had his face in the water the first lesson.  He has achived 3 badges so far and is well on his way to the 4th.  How do they do it?  They have a unique and highly successful teaching technique.  Not only do they teach children to swim but they teach the perfect strokes.  And I do mean perfect!  I can't say enough good things about this place and what they have accomplished.  I can't wait until Matthew does his first triathalon!

Hey! Hey! I wanna be a rockstar! **updated again**

I love this picture of Matthew!  Today was "Canadian Idol" try-outs at his school... he and 17 other classmates put their best talents on the stage in hopes of being the new school Idol!  We will let you know Monday if he made it into the talent show!

See that chocker necklace he has on?  Thanks to Mom's jewellry-making abilities, that is his guitar pick hanging there!  Cool eh?

The not-so-cool part -- see those sunglasses?  We grabbed them off the rack thinking they were $12.99 but they were $40!!! Fourty!!! For kid's sunglasses!!!  Are they freakin' nuts?  I told Matthew that if he loses them, I will be buying him Mickey Mouse glasses from Wal-Mart until he goes to University...

In other news, the Numchuks, as the baby platys have been nicknamed by Matthew, have been spotted in the tank.  We think there are 6 to 9 of them!!!  Here is the first photo snapped of a baby; they are more adventurous now that they are larger than their parents' mouths... ;-)  They are just too cute but I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WE WILL DO WITH THEM!   

UPDATE:  Yes!  Matthew made it!  He is contestant on his school's Canadian Rockstar!  Wooohooo!

2nd UPDATE:  Idol Night was a fabulous evening of talent in the school.  They had three judges; "Simon", "Paula" and "Randy" who all showed their kinder, gentler side that night.  There was no winner because all of the kids were fabulous. 

It was fun to watch Matthew play guitar for an audience for the first time.  I think he really enjoyed the limelight!

My universe

We make our own starry nights when the weather is bad!  Nothing like taking a trip thru the constellations just before going to bed.

I am beginning to hate the term "Yo!"  Matthew wants to be cool, so his language and expressions are changing.  LOVE this little man!
